VIX: Outside Tick

Yesterday, the VIX had an outside tick.

In fact, it had an inside tick on Monday and then an outside tick yesterday.

What is the significance of inside and outside ticks?

They are considered "indecision" ticks where a definite direction has not been picked yet. Therefore, the Volatility Index may be erratic today, and if it closes higher, it could spell trouble ahead.
