McDonald's CEO on Minimum Wage and Expansion

McDonald's CEO Don Thompson, sat down with Bloomberg Television's Betty Liu this afternoon at Bloomberg's The Year Ahead: 2014 in Chicago and said:

  • "We're not a minimum wage employer today" and the opportunities we provide at McDonalds are much greater than many other places so, minimum wage is not a challenge

  • McDonalds pays more than minimum wage to store workers

  • Higher U.S minimum wage may increase inflation

On McDonald's expansion, Thompson said:

  • McDonald's is not close to having too many locations globally

  • There is room for new stores in McDonald's biggest markets, including the U.S. and France

  • The company is planning to open 1,500 locations worldwide this year and 1,600 in 2014
